Starting & Charging System

You turn the key in the ignition and get nothing. Or maybe you hear a clicking noise. Your vehicle likely has a problem with the starting or charging system. These electrical systems work together to get your engine started.

Starting

The starting system uses the ignition switch, starter, and flywheel to run the engine and charge other electrical units. The starter is an electric motor with a starter relay that is powered by the battery to turn the engine over and get it running.

Charging

The battery, alternator, and voltage regulator comprise a vehicle’s charging system.

These systems work together and often display similar warning signs when they malfunction.
