WHY PAY FOR PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE?

Preventive Maintenance pays for itself. It’s like the old saying: “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

For example, let’s say that there is a worn king pin on the front steer axle of your semi-truck. Early signs of king pin wear can be subtle. The consequences, however, will be anything but.

Whether it’s your local tire center or one of our 30+ locations on the road, every Bauer Built commercial service center has professionally trained mechanical services teams ready to inspect all critical mechanical components of your rig. This includes commercial trucks, semi-trucks and road tractors as well as semi-trailers/road trailers.

Since every Bauer Built Wheel End Repair inspection includes a steer axle king pin health assessment, you can rest assured that our technicians would catch a worn-out king pin.

A replacement king pin can cost hundreds of dollars, and on a normal business day, a diagnostic exam and king pin replacement may require around three hours. While these are significant investments of your money and your time, they’re nothing compared to the true costs of not replacing the king pin.

King pins are built to withstand the extreme forces required to safely steer a fully-loaded, heavy duty commercial truck. When a king pin is worn down, it will no longer sit properly at the junction of the steering knuckle and steering axle. When a king pin is loose, some of the force that is normally absorbed by the king pin is redistributed to the steering axle itself. The axle, however, was never meant to withstand these forces. Because of the loose king pin, not only will the truck’s steering system will no longer function properly: you may need to completely replace the steering axle.

Skipping regular maintenance doesn’t actually save money. If anything, it will cost you more in the long run—especially if you manage a commercial fleet.

Every truck needs maintenance sooner or later.  It’s only a question of  when—and how much it will cost you.  The longer you wait, the more damage you do.

Be proactive. The best way to prevent unexpected maintenance costs is to inspect your truck regularly.

Stop mechanical issues before they stop you.
